Leadership is Feminine

For most women, when we are invited to study leadership the teachers, scholars, authorities and models are primarily… men. We are indoctrinated from the time we are born that men are the leaders and that natural male characteristics are the strengths you must also possess to be a good leader. Powerful. Strong. Authoritative. Direct. Assertive. Decisive. These and so many more are attributes that are typically associated with the male model of a leader. And so, for the better part of the last one hundred years as women have made their way into the fold, in a variety of leadership roles, we have learned and studied to walk the way of a men to achieve success. Women dismiss their own knowing because we’ve been so indoctrinated in male leadership models. We dismiss what we know for what others tell us to be and how to be seen. There is another way to lead. To be in alignment. To not feel like an imposter. It’s time for the reimagining of leadership. That’s not to disparage any of the progress that has come before us. Progress is progress. For those of us who stand in the footsteps of the women who came before us we are here because of their courage, bravery and resilience. I wonder instead if women equally looked to the characteristics they learned from their mothers for leadership. I wonder if we were taught to lean on different qualities to drive success. I wonder what might happen then? The traditional qualities of mothering are communication, nurturing, listening, strength, support, grace, and yes… love. What if to be the best leader you can be as a woman, you integrated the best of both? This is how women will stand with integrity in their role as leaders. As women, we can be assertive, direct, powerful, and authoritative but we need not only rely on those attributes for success. After 25 years of watching and studying leaders, I can tell you that for sure many traditional male attributes are effective in the short run, but they typically only serve a few. Whereas, when leadership is feminine. When the leader possesses the strengths of femininity and grace the results are for all. This podcast is my like my gentle request and invitation to my fellow female leaders that we reclaim the world leadership as one that is a feminine definition. That we continue to work with all of our allies to build organizations and systems that include more support, collaboration, grace and communication. And that we do so not because we are uncomfortable with the more traditional male-dominating models, but because we truly do know that leadership is a feminine strength and attribute. And the world needs more of us leading. Now more than ever.

Has believing you’re not business minded held you back? If so, I have good news to share: That may only be because being business minded may not be as you envision it. There is much more to it than stats, accounting and marketing. Don’t allow behaviors and skills that can be cultivated and activated – even if you weren’t good at them in the past – hold you back any longer!

Because how we think about all this can be such a hindrance, I wanted to address it. When I thought about how to approach this topic, my friend Jody Moore immediately came to mind. Jody is a gifted coach and she’s developed a program literally called “Business Minded”. As we recorded this episode, Jody shared how she used to believe she wasn’t business minded but learned differently. She and I go on to discuss several aspects of what it actually means to be business minded, including important metrics, consistent behaviors, sales approaches, and much more.

“Without consistent behavior, skills don’t matter. And, the good news is, you don’t even have to have the skills if you just compensate with behavior… And, then of course, ironically enough, the more behaviors you put in, the better your skills become.” – Jody Moore

What You’ll Learn

  • What it is to be business minded
  • Metrics that matter versus indicators that don’t
  • Behaviors, skills and consistency
  • Reframing making offers
  • Is the Business Minded program right for you?
  • Goals that pull
  • Removing bottlenecks

Jody in her own words…

Hello, I’m Jody. I’m a lot like you. I am a mother of 4, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and a woman trying to figure out how to minimize resentment, overwhelm and guilt, and replace them with happiness, gratitude and joy.

Three years after getting married I found myself with two kids under age 2, a loving husband, and a lot of self-loathing. I struggled with the duties associated with being a mom and wife and then I felt guilty for feeling that way. After all, this was the life I thought I’d always wanted.

I have a BA in Communications and an MA in Adult Education along with 15 years of experience as a Corporate Trainer and Leadership Coach, but what has helped me the most to overcome my struggles and to conquer all of my goals, are the tools I use now to coach my clients. Thanks to my extensive training with Brooke Castillo of The Life Coach School, I am now a Certified Life Coach, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work I get to do in the world.

What I learned when I found coaching (and now teach to others), helped me gain my confidence back. It helped me enjoy my kids and love my husband exactly as he is. It helped me create a successful business and be the kind of mom I want to be at the same time. The tools I teach are the ones that have helped me live gospel principles and develop a closer relationship with my Heavenly Father.

Today I have the honor of helping women (and a few brave men) achieve the results they desire in all areas of their life. My clients range from young newlyweds to empty nesters and together, we are changing the results in their lives.

I feel so honored to get to work with these individuals to improve their relationships, their confidence, their physical, mental and emotional health, their money situation and their contribution in the world.

I believe all of my previous education and experience has prepared me to do this work. I’m a lucky woman. And guess what?

So are you. I will help you find it.

Stress is inevitable. We’re running our businesses, cherishing our personal lives, navigating the changing world around us… No matter where we turn, stressors are present. Simply trying to tell ourselves not to feel stressed, and to just relax or to just suck it up, is unhelpful and often ineffective. I want to offer an approach that helps: acknowledging the stress, identifying what’s going on when we feel stressed and knowing what we can do to mitigate it.

As we examine how to manage stress for women business owners, I want to discuss the elements of stress. I believe there are major contributing factors such as resistance to the truth, how we buffer stress, and our personal tipping points. In consideration of stressors, we have countless outside sources but the inner source – that is, our own inner dialogue – is the overpowering one. Therefore, the thoughts you think are the ultimate source of stress, and framing them is key to management. Let’s talk about it.

“That inner dialogue that you entertain is really, ultimately, the source that we have to talk to… that inner dialogue is either promoting your ability to be resilient and capable… or that inner dialogue is promoting your ineptitude, your lack of skill... But as you tell that story about who you are, I want you to look at what that does to how you feel emotionally and physically.” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • Resistance to the truth
  • The skill of resilience
  • Breaking down stressors
    • Countless sources
    • Stories we tell ourselves
    • Victim vs. owner
  • Framing your thoughts with power

Business models, kits, courses, systems and similar flood the marketplace. A simple online search pulls an overwhelming number of options. But finding a model designed for women, with women in mind is trickier. As female entrepreneurs, we possess natural strengths and assets which differ from men. We need a business strategy that leverages those.

In this business mastery episode, I address business strategy for women business owners. Before we begin, I want to establish that it’s healthy to periodically adjust and rework your strategy. As your desire for the results of your business changes, your strategy needs to as well. I find I adjust mine about every 24-36 months.

“And that is the part that is so dynamic: that your strategy has to be that fluid AND concrete… and fluid and concrete... It’s just an evolving process. It’s a breathing process. And I think that’s what so many models don’t account for.” – Kris Plachy

For many leaders, hiring is scary enough but what about when you need to let someone go? As I promised, throughout Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine, I’m tackling some of the most daunting and critical components of business mastery. And how to fire someone, and do it nicely, ranks right at the top for most leaders.

Knowing how to kindly part ways is an invaluable skill, not only for yourself but for the other person. You are able to soften an already difficult and very uncomfortable situation when you know how to address the problem. In this episode, I teach you some guidelines and share some wisdom on how to cause the least amount of injury and pain to both you and them.

“If I walked into your business today and asked people who worked for you if they knew what their goals were, if they knew what the result was that they’re responsible for, would they know? If your answer is ‘Ummm, maybe?’ or ‘Uh, probably not’, we already know we have a cocktail for confusion when it gets to potentially firing someone.” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • Don’t surprise people

What exactly is The Founder’s Curse? Of course, it’s not truly a curse but there is a genuine concept here. One that, for lack of a better description, plagues most founders.

As we journey together through Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine, I want to focus on business mastery. You already have mastery of what you do in the world, that is, your subject matter expertise or practitioner expertise. But what about mastery of the necessities of running your business, such as how to lead and manage teams? We can all use more mastery in that area. And one block to building that mastery is overcoming The Founder’s Curse. I want to bring that into the light, discuss it, and help you conquer it.

“For as long as you keep believing that you’re the only one, ultimately, who will ever really know how to make it work, you will remain the only one, who really knows – ever – how to make it work. And you will keep working harder.” – Kris Plachy

  • 3 ways you create delay
    • Reaffirming unproductive habit
    • Usurping
    • Crippling accountability
  • Recognizing you’ve got The Founder’s Curse
  • Overcoming it

This episode starts Season 4 of Leadership Is Feminine. If you’ve not heard all of the amazing, everyday women I had with me in Season 3, I encourage you to go back and listen to all the episodes. The encouragement, inspiration and wisdom you’ll gain is phenomenal.

For Season 4, I want to focus on leadership excellence and mastery for women. In particular, I believe that the characteristic of resilience is a core quality. Embedded in resilience is consistency, and with consistency comes mastery. Mastery isn’t based on complex systems. It’s about basic truths, basic principles. In looking back on my own growth over the past 10 years, I’ve found that the same principles are still true, and they are what work.

“I love watching the powerful ability of a women, once she no longer feels helpless to managing and leading people… once she’s no longer helpless to the behaviors and choices of others… once she knows that there’s nothing in her business… she can’t handle… Watching that happen and being witness to women who experience that kind of resolve, and knowing, and wisdom has been so inspiring for me.” – Kris Plachy

Changing your mindset as a leader is a magical gift. It allows you to manage yourself, and therefore, your team, with greater empathy. The beautiful truth about changing yourself is that some change can happen very quickly and it is always worth the investment.

In today’s episode, Dr. Camysha Wright and I talk about change as a leader. We discuss how empowering it is to make time for necessary changes, to refill your own tank so you aren’t always depleted, and the value in investing in your own leadership and management skills. We also revisit a very powerful statement Dr. Wright made during a previous discussion, one that has stuck with me ever since: many things can actually be accomplished in a day. And this can  include changing yourself. As you listen to this episode, I hope this truth encourages you as much as it does me.

“I think the biggest gift for me has been the change in mindset… learning how to deal with my own mind… managing your team is definitely very important but you also have to manage yourself… changing the way that I see things and how I analyze, like a problem, has been a huge gift…” – Dr. Camysha Wright

How much do you allow yourself to have in regards to money? As women, we are conditioned to “tuck it in” when it comes to being extremely successful in earnings. No matter how long we’ve been working at something or how much money we make, doubts will creep in and times of uncertainty will come. We discuss building your own Queendom, dancing with failure, dealing with hires that don’t work out, and more. Deborah shares how she was encouraged to leave corporate America and do for herself what she’d been accomplishing for others. As you listen to her share her experiences and what she’s learned since becoming an entrepreneur, I hope you are emboldened to follow your own little voice.

In our businesses, we all need someone who can help with the books. But we also need someone who can help us think forward. Someone who can help us forecast, not retract, and change our thoughts and habits around money. For me, that is my CFO and the owner of Nice Job, Inc., Emily Sandberg.

I wanted to have Emily on an episode to share some of her wisdom and magic, and she delivered. We discussed security, being properly connected to our money, leadership, protecting structures and roles, and much more. As a money genius, Emily gave several powerful statements revolving around how we think about money. She reminded all of us that money does not define us, and neither our businesses nor ourselves are fragile.

“One of the problems I see is women who use money to define who they are. They want the money to tell them they’re good enough, they’re smart enough, they’re capable enough. And so they think if they have enough money, then they’ll know that for sure. But when you're a leader, when you take leadership over the money, what you do then is you recognize money for what it is. It’s a tool.” – Emily Sandberg

What You’ll Learn

  • Safety isn’t in the money
  • Money doesn’t define you, it’s data
  • The power in how you think about making money
  • It’s never as bad as it feels
  • Dynamic changes around decisions and entrepreneurship
  • Protecting structure and roles
  • I’m not fragile and neither is my business

Meet Emily Sandberg

Emily Sandberg is the owner of Nice Job, Inc. She’s a money coach specializing in cashflow and forecasting for online coaches and course creators. While most accounting looks to the past for guidance, Emily works with her clients to know the future of money in their business, so they can make strategic decisions with their cash. Her work has helped dozens of clients go from running a money-hungry business to a predictably profitable enterprise, by simply following her profit-centered framework. When she’s not running scenarios for her clients’ Facebook Ad Spends, she can be found playing pickleball or hiking in the gorgeous red rocks of southern Utah with her family.

As your business grows, your role as a leader should change and evolve. This includes what you do on a regular basis and what you relinquish to others. As you realign your leadership into co-creation, you’ll face countless challenges, including properly choosing and nurturing a team, letting go of all the things you once personally did, and even breaking old habits.

In this episode, I converse with Erika Sinner, founder and CEO of Directorie™ about numerous facets of leadership. We talk about setting healthy standards and expectations both for ourselves as leaders and for our team. Erika shares her wisdom regarding trusting yourself and following what you know, deep down, is the next right thing. As we talked, Erika dropped a truth bomb that even I was challenged by. I hope you’re challenged and encouraged as well.

“When you think about things about your business, you always feel like… ‘We don’t have time to create training’, ‘We don’t have time to hire’... And if you replace that with ‘It’s not important to create training’... it changes! It shifts how you feel about the things you just said. Because when you really think about it that way, you have to prioritize the things that are important. Or something’s gotta give.” – Erika Sinner

What You’ll Learn

  • Breaking corporate-world habits
  • Trusting yourself
  • Nurturing a growing team
  • Realigning your leadership to co-creation
  • Connecting for authentic validation
  • Choosing whose advice you heed
  • Replacing the “I don’t have time” mindset

Meet Erika Sinner

Enthusiasm, effort, and excellence: the keywords that embody all of Erika’s endeavors. And founding Directorie™ is no exception to this rule…she saw the need for a different model in the industry, and she stepped up to fill the void.

For nearly 20 years, she’s built successful teams, brands, and managed a myriad of agency relationships in the pharmaceutical industry. Her experience spans rare disease, high-science, and traditional medications delivered in the hospital, community setting, or by focused specialists. With the demands of life and business in our modern times, peace can be elusive. Yet, as female CEOs, we sometimes talk ourselves out of creating that necessary environment of calm. We wrongly believe we’re not worthy or that it’s indulgent or selfish, but it isn’t. It’s truly an investment in yourself and your business.

In this episode, I talk with interior designer Tara Fust (Tara Fust Design) about the value of peace. We discuss fostering peace in all endeavors, whether it’s in your surroundings or within relationships. She shares about the joy of finding common ground with other women, the pitfalls of taking on a business partner, and the power of staying present through failure. As you listen to our discussion, I hope you find the inspiration to build beauty and serenity into your life and business.

“When you can create those moments of peace and quiet where you can just kinda get back to who you are… So powerful.” – Tara Fust

What You’ll Learn

  • Finding common ground with others
  • Contemplating taking on a partner
  • Staying present in failure

Tara in her own words…
THE FAT: I'm the daughter of an interior designer who grew up living in homes that were constantly evolving, changing… being redone. Combine that with the sunshine and beaches of Southern California and it’s no surprise I’m living a creative life that’s inspired by easy, beautiful living.

THE SKINNY: A move South and the springboard of a little home furnishings store—plus a handful of great clients—and I’ve found my place. It's about creating homes and spaces that invite you in, beg you to stay, and make your day when you come through the door.

The power of showing up, rather than serving in sacrifice, cannot be overstated. When we commit, when we are there, even when no one else is, a superpower is released that often comes in no other way.

In this episode, I talk with Bernadette Doyle, owner and CEO of Bernadette Doyle.com about the superpower of showing up. Throughout our conversation, we discuss feminine leadership, thriving through the unknown, the disservice of sacrifice in business, and much more. I hope you receive a fresh perspective on the magic of committing to, and trusting, yourself.

“There is nothing, in my experience, that trumps that energy of just showing up, committed. I’m committed to serve. I’m here and I’m showing up, even if… you know, you do a Facebook live and you can see you might have no one on with you. But you just show up and you just give it your all anyway. And I think that is the powerpower.” – Bernadette Doyle

What You’ll Learn

  • Thriving during the unknown
  • Relaxing into tough conversations
  • Embracing the feminine model of leadership
  • The superpower of committing
  • The disservice of sacrifice in business

The power of attraction can be magical for a female CEO. Attraction brings clients, connections and even team members. And when building a quality team, in particular, it can be a secret weapon. People naturally want to work for someone they respect and who is generating good within a particular space. This alleviates the need to go looking for high caliber team members. It also allows the CEO to look into someone who expresses interest in working for them, without making any commitment to hire.

But what, exactly, is the power of attraction? In this episode, I discuss what it is and what it is not with successful CEO and entrepreneur, Karin Carr. Karin is the real estate team owner and CEO at Georgia Coast Homes, the creator of YouTube for Agents, and a coach for those in the real estate business (Karin Carr Coaching). We talk about creating solutions, learning to delegate, turning mistakes into opportunities, and the superpower of understanding attraction. I hope you’ll be inspired and moved to action by this chat. Before you listen, I’ll give you one tiny spoiler alert: The power of attraction isn’t about you looking a certain way.

“You don’t have to be young, you don’t have to be skinny, you don’t have to be gorgeous… By being on camera, yes, there may be trolls that say something negative. But you know what? We can’t let it stop us. You can have such an amazing career if you’re just willing to put yourself out there.” – Karin Carr

What You’ll Learn

  • Moving into helping others
  • Building a team through attraction
  • Being the primary breadwinner
  • Learning to let go and choosing what makes sense
  • Responding to and making use of mistakes
  • Allowing yourself to be seen

Meet Karin Carr

Karin Carr is the real estate team owner and CEO at Georgia Coast Homes, the creator of YouTube for Agents, and a coach for those in the real estate business (Karin Carr Coaching).

Karin has been a REALTOR® since 2005. She heads the GCH team with Real in Savannah, GA. Upon relocating to a new city in 2017, she decided to start uploading videos to YouTube to help her become known in her new market.

Her business exploded and within two years she had formed a team that now generates more than 80% of their closings from YouTube. With more than 13,000 subscribers, her YouTube channel, Georgia Coast Homes, gets more than 40,000 organic views a month. Serving markets throughout GA and SC, her team averages 3-5 inbound leads per day without buying leads. Karin’s love of all things YouTube led her to create a training program for other agents around the world who want to generate a steady stream of inbound leads through video marketing.

She is the founder and CEO of Karin Carr Coaching and is thrilled to see the amazing results her students are getting. She is also the host of the free Facebook group, YouTube for Real Estate Agents, which has over 20,000 members.

Whatever your individual purpose is, you are designed to make a difference. Finding precisely how, although, can be a winding path. The very focus on making a difference can cause unwelcome detours, typically caused by fear… Fear of failure, lack of knowledge, feelings of inadequacy… But when you settle into being yourself, follow your heart, and trust in that, you will also achieve your goal of making a difference.

In this episode, I chatted with Jennifer Krepps, the owner of Kritter Kare’s Howliday Inn and Kritter Kare’s Pet Sitting all about this. We discuss wanting to bring an increase in the level of respect in her industry, the desire to thrive and not simply survive, moments that define your legacy, and much more. During our time together, Jennifer wisely compares scenic stops to enrichments in our life journey and I hope this podcast is a scenic stop for you.

“You’ve got to pursue what’s in your soul, what really matters to you. And, I think, in doing that, you will make a difference at the same time.” – Jennifer Krepps

What You’ll Learn

  • Making a difference by being yourself
  • Scenic stops
  • Reinventing how to pull people in
  • Thriving versus surviving: Who are you listening to?
  • Moments that define your legacy
  • Lies of sunny skies
  • Scared but doing it anyway

Meet Jennifer Krepps

Jennifer in her own words…

“I am a down-to-earth, Midwest lady with a drive to design a life and legacy that reflects my core values in giving quality time and service to others.”

About Kritter Kare 4 U LLC (DBA Kritter Kare’s Howliday Inn)

Kritter Kare is a boutique style dog care facility & in-home pet sitting service located in Columbia, Illinois. They started providing in-your-home pet sitting/dog walking services in June 2009, and Jennifer Kreps, company owner, explained at that time what the company purpose was then and still today, “Kritter Kare is not just a pet sitting business, we are a pet caring company. That is our foundation. That is our focus.”

The mindset of an intrapreneur (an introverted entrepreneur) is one of determination to fix what is wrong, even while it is not in their nature to seek a position of leadership. Rather, intrapreneurs frequently find others inquiring of their wisdom, following their suggestions, and asking them to lead. Insight and depth of caring flourish in the intrapreneur, fueling their innate drive to improve processes and ideals in order to improve the lives of others.

In today’s episode, I talked with Dr. Evelyn Hsu, MD, a natural intrapreneur. She discusses how, as a physician, clinician, teacher and researcher, she has found herself in leadership positions without seeking them. She shares at length about pushing past fear and discomfort to achieve worthwhile ends. We discuss the mindset of being an intrapreneur leader, current and necessary paradigm shifts, and how being maladapted (I love this term she uses) can actually be your superpower.

“I can’t accept things just being bad… Accepting the risk to do what’s right is something I’m really willing to do… You can be afraid of everything and do it anyway.” – Dr. Evelyn Hsu, MD

What You’ll Learn

  • Defining the intrapreneur
  • Navigating difficult conversations
  • The power of doing it afraid
  • Allowing curiosity of how things work in this great organism
  • Shifting the physician’s paradigm
  • Capturing the quiet

Meet Dr. Evelyn Hsu, MD

Evelyn in her own words…

“The only way we can change this system for the better is to stay in it as leaders.

I am an academic physician; I am a clinician, a teacher, and a researcher. I’m a former people-pleaser and perfectionist in recovery.

I love academic medicine for the space that it allows for ideas and research, and for the opportunity it gives us to shape the future of what is possible. I don’t love academic medicine for how it is deeply steeped in patriarchy, and the way it encourages us to pay for our progress with our blood, our sweat, and our tears.

I’m in it as a leader and a coach because I want to bring calm to your chaos without compromising your dreams, cutting down your time, or quitting your job. Simply by getting to the point you are at, you are brilliant and effective. Coaching can get you to the next step faster, and with more joy.

I know what it is like to exist within the system that factors in the combined pressure of clinical work, administrative responsibilities, teaching, leadership, and research excellence.

Only a coach who is also a physician can understand the unique pressures of academic medicine.

We will begin with career visioning and goal-setting. Follow-up modules will be tailored based on your needs.

Module topics inclusive of but not limited to: time management, relationships, people pleasing, perfectionism, negotiation, stress, anxiety, writing, projects and mind/life clutter.”

When life doesn’t go the way we think it will, it can seem like a reason to stop dreaming. Tragedy, especially, drives us into a place of acute grief, followed by days where just putting one foot in front of the other is our limit. Krista St-Germain, Life Coach for Widowed Moms, founder of Mom Goes On and host of The Widowed Mom podcast has lived this. Widowed at age 40, Krista discovered grief recovery through coaching and the ability to dream again.

In this podcast installment, Krista shares her warrior coach power and offers her viewpoints and advice regarding business, life and grief coaching. She touches on unexpected grief, unexpected growth, working with a team, the power of failure, and much more. I hope through hearing this episode, you are buoyed and strengthened in your own journey.

“‘Wait a minute, what lights me up here? What would just absolutely feel like a dream to do here? And then follow that.’ And then, boom! I solved the problem that I was so stressed out and losing sleep over. And then in an hour, it felt totally different.” – Krista St-Germain

What You’ll Learn

  • Unexpected tragedy, unexpected growth
  • Unplanned obligations
  • The who, not the how in business
  • Not minimizing grief in a society focused on happiness
  • Loving what you do and who you help
  • Going for the next evolution despite the fear
  • The strength in making things fun
  • The power of failure

Meet Krista St-Germain

Krista in her own words…

“When my husband was killed by a drunk driver, I was devastated.

Therapy helped me survive the tidal wave of grief and unfurl myself from the fetal position.

I went back to work. Everyone kept telling me how “strong” I was. I acted strong in front of my kids. But inside I felt hollow. All my dreams had included him.

I desperately wanted to believe I could still have a happy, fulfilling life but I wasn’t sure how. Then I began to research grief, trauma and healing extensively. I studied cognitive behavioral coaching and read every book I could find. I combined what I learned about Post Traumatic Growth with cognitive science-based coaching tools and figured out how to turn my loss into a strategy for growth.

I learned to see myself as stronger because of what I’d been through instead of using it as a reason to stop dreaming.

I created a new life using small, manageable steps and techniques that made sense. The changes I experienced were so profound I became a Master Certified Life Coach and created a group coaching program for widows like us called Mom Goes On.”

She is the celebrated author of The Leveraged Business: How You Can Go From Overwhelmed at Six Figures to Seven Figures (and Get Your Life Back) and Embrace Your Magnificence: Get Out of Your Own Way, and Live a Richer, Fuller, More Abundant Life.

Whether good or bad, a leader is one who inspires others to follow. Beyond this definition, however, there are deep questions. What, exactly, makes a leader powerful and effective? What is the element that goes beyond strategies, methods and competency and taps into hidden CEO magic?

A big component is the currency of energy. To understand the existence of the currency of energy and to use that is huge. It releases the magic we all need and want. That, in turn, releases what I hold to be the most important leadership characteristic. I invite you to join me as I explore and share that magical characteristic in this episode.

What You’ll Learn

  • The currency of energy
    • Magic, hope and the power of your mind
  • Making sense of the unseen
    • Spirituality
    • Leading and creating your business
    • Attracting followers

When people feel heard, they feel known, valued – and this is desperately needed in our modern culture. It is, perhaps, an even deeper need for women in powerful leadership positions. Others listen to accomplished, successful women for the express purpose of acquiring knowledge for their own gain. But who truly hears and sees the strong, powerful women, herself, who is dispensing said knowledge?

Out of this reality comes the wisdom that all need to be truly seen and heard. To not be is quite lonely. As women especially, we naturally possess the ability to listen and alleviate this need, if we are intentional to sharpen our skill. Leaders who do so will draw others to themselves who are at the same level, which is both desirable and mutually beneficial. Through this episode, I hope to ignite in you the desire to awaken the deep, pure magic of being a leader who truly listens and sees.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why we typically feel unheard
    • Pursuit of knowledge
    • Self-focused society
  • The magic of listening
    • Connect with people at the same level
    • Hold others in high value
    • Some proofs you’re truly listening
  • Cultivate being listened to yourself
  • Find people who see and hear you

Holding others accountable, especially employees, is one of the biggest and most common issues leaders face. Why is it so hard to get people to do what you want or assess performance and address issues? Why is holding people responsible so uncomfortable? I believe the core issue is this: We associate accountability with punishment.

Borne from the traditional masculine authority figure dynamic, we anticipate or associate a penalty exacted for an offense. We see this throughout society in various forms. And although punishment is a form of accountability, it isn’t the type needed nor desired in business. It is neither relevant nor applicable. What we need and desire from those we lead is ownership, obligation, and investment in the outcome. We need proper accountability. So how do we nurture that desired environment of personal responsibility? To start, we must disassociate punishment from accountability.

What You’ll Learn

  • Defining proper accountability
    • The origin of punishment within accountability
    • Emotions and personal investment triggers
  • Dirty vs clean accountability
    • Remembering the purpose of having employees
    • Divorcing emotion: loyalty, love and poor performance
  • Accountability is professional commitment
    • Being held to account for ability is rare
    • The uncomfortable place of being the first
    • Clear expectations, clear agreement, and not meeting them
  • Earning their way up? or earning their way out?
    • Neutral, not personal; steering clear of punishment
    • Navigate with maturity and addressing commitment
    • Sort your emotions before acting

We tend to be organized, especially as a society. Structured, linear thinking is expected and natural. This leads to us believing not only do we know what will happen but also why. And therefore, we believe we have control over things. This control thought-pattern then breeds a constant stream of how. How are we going to do this, how are we going to do that?

But what if not investing all our energy into the how frees us to lean into belief? Frees the magic of the creative process and fuels success for our vision? Let’s recapture the what we’ve been kissed with through embracing the magic of NOT knowing how.

What You’ll Learn

  • Why we lose the magic

    • Vision getting lost

    • Not knowing the how

  • An example from my life

    • Absolute clarity, without any idea of the how

  • Loving what you do releases the magic

    • Lean into joy

    • Commit to being more of you

  • The missing piece

    • How versus the energy of truly believing

    • More than just tactics

  • Worry robs us

    • Increased capacity

    • Release your need to know

  • Ways the how generates more easily

    • Nurture what you’ve been kissed with

    • Refuse anxiety triggers

    • Be healthy, thriving, open, free

    • Achieve through proper work
