Leadership is Feminine

For most women, when we are invited to study leadership the teachers, scholars, authorities and models are primarily… men. We are indoctrinated from the time we are born that men are the leaders and that natural male characteristics are the strengths you must also possess to be a good leader. Powerful. Strong. Authoritative. Direct. Assertive. Decisive. These and so many more are attributes that are typically associated with the male model of a leader. And so, for the better part of the last one hundred years as women have made their way into the fold, in a variety of leadership roles, we have learned and studied to walk the way of a men to achieve success. Women dismiss their own knowing because we’ve been so indoctrinated in male leadership models. We dismiss what we know for what others tell us to be and how to be seen. There is another way to lead. To be in alignment. To not feel like an imposter. It’s time for the reimagining of leadership. That’s not to disparage any of the progress that has come before us. Progress is progress. For those of us who stand in the footsteps of the women who came before us we are here because of their courage, bravery and resilience. I wonder instead if women equally looked to the characteristics they learned from their mothers for leadership. I wonder if we were taught to lean on different qualities to drive success. I wonder what might happen then? The traditional qualities of mothering are communication, nurturing, listening, strength, support, grace, and yes… love. What if to be the best leader you can be as a woman, you integrated the best of both? This is how women will stand with integrity in their role as leaders. As women, we can be assertive, direct, powerful, and authoritative but we need not only rely on those attributes for success. After 25 years of watching and studying leaders, I can tell you that for sure many traditional male attributes are effective in the short run, but they typically only serve a few. Whereas, when leadership is feminine. When the leader possesses the strengths of femininity and grace the results are for all. This podcast is my like my gentle request and invitation to my fellow female leaders that we reclaim the world leadership as one that is a feminine definition. That we continue to work with all of our allies to build organizations and systems that include more support, collaboration, grace and communication. And that we do so not because we are uncomfortable with the more traditional male-dominating models, but because we truly do know that leadership is a feminine strength and attribute. And the world needs more of us leading. Now more than ever.

The feminine CEO formula. What does it entail, exactly? How do you go from being kissed with an idea to having a thriving business with an incredible team? How do you transition from making so many decisions yourself to ascending into the next level of yourself where you’re not as involved anymore? Such transformation takes time and intentionality.

I want to help you with this intentional process. Walk beside you as you take the time and make the time to grow and change. As with anything, it’s always best to begin at the beginning so I decided to record this episode – a start here to become the CEO. Obviously, we cannot cover everything in one brief podcast but I want to offer my perspective regarding this road, both the positives as well as the pitfalls. It’s super crazy fun and super terrifying, so let’s go.

“What river do you want to be in? Do you wanna be in the one where you’ve got those frickin’ paddles and you’re working so hard to get there? Or do you want to try to figure out how to get into that river with the current that’s gonna help you move?” – Kris Plachy

Being supported is a vital need but we struggle with seeking and accepting support. We know, intellectually, that leadership is an inside job yet we resist. The insights and changes that must take place in order for us to be more competent and confident women stay on a surface level.

Let’s call it out: female entrepreneurs struggle with support. Whether through societal conditioning or other influences, we act as though we don’t need help. Like we’ve got it all under control. The biggest issue with this fallacy is that it only harms us and holds us back. We can learn plenty of solid techniques and methods for success but those systems will only take us so far. If we cannot internalize insights and information, make them mean something to ourselves and our business, we will fall short of our potential. I don’t want to see that happen to you so let’s tackle it head on.

“You have to believe that you are worthy of being supported.” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • Too dependent on self
  • Believe support exists

The All-In Coterie for 2023: Helping women identify what they really want to achieve and really getting over their own hangups about it.

Jan 16, 2023

With calling comes responsibility. In order to fully embrace your calling, you first must know what it is – not just generally, but specifically. Then you must be ready to fully embrace the responsibility that comes with that calling. Yet, in order to embrace responsibility, it’s integral to identify the influences of your calling.

Who we are and who we’re called to be is interwoven with threads of influence, whether they be threads of encouragement or discouragement, of vocalization or of silencing. Leadership training, philosophies, and so on, creating vision and purpose, are most often based on ideas that came from the minds of men. Which I’m not saying is a bad thing. But if you believe as I do, that women often speak a different language, and that there is a divine element behind your calling, that this is about the soul of your business, this all deserves investigation.

“A calling is serving a soul.” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • “You Are a Goddess”
  • Language of women
  • Divine calling
  • Soul of a business
  • Changing your relationship with your business

What are you all in on? Does it show? What happens to you when you think about going all in on what matters to you most? What precious things… and, more importantly, what discomforts… come to mind?

That's really the crux of the whole thing, isn’t it? Making the lasting behavior changes necessary to move through, to work in spite of, the discomforts. Love, let me give it to you straight: I’ve come to the place where I’m willing to be a hot mess, even in public, in front of others, for the sake of the thing I want most. Are you? Let’s talk about it.

“Are you willing to forgo comfort to achieve the thing you say you want most?” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • Admitting the discomfort
  • Willing to forgo, willing to be a mess
  • Avoiding feelings
  • Buffering behaviors
  • Becoming the woman, not perfecting processes

Firing people is extremely uncomfortable, to state the obvious. What may not be quite as obvious, however, is exactly why you’re not firing them, why you should and why you should right now. Don’t drag the same problems you’ve been having into another year.

To help you, I’ve gathered several thoughts I hope are enlightening, empowering and freeing. As I share, I want you to sit and really listen. Absorb the truth that you are not alone in this issue, that you must make firing “that” person happen, and that you can do it. Your business depends on it, your other team members depend on it, and you depend on it. If you don’t, you’ll continue to struggle, to lose sleep, and to stifle the growth of the business you’ve been kissed with. Let’s not let that happen. Let’s face this tough issue and deal with it.

“We don’t hire people to save them.” – Kris Plachy

What You’ll Learn

  • Why you have to fire them NOW
  • We don’t hire to save
  • What else they're ruining
  • Let us help you
  • You can’t change or force them
  • How it will feel afterwards
